LCTA's 6th Annual International Night
May 5th 5:30pm-8:00pm
Interested in representing a country?
The format for the night is simple and fun. Tables(countries) hosted by families will surround the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) and Cafeteria at Lyles-Crouch. Children will rotate through the MPR stamping their passports as they go. There will be music and dancing on the stage from around the world!! New this year is an outdoor stage! We will also have several food trucks onsite with international tastes and flavors.
Ideas for your table displays could include; national dress, pictures of food, maps, flags, videos, books, crafts, games, sports teams, list of national holidays, music, trinkets...anything that you think showcases your country.
Feel free to bring "national" nibbles and tastes to share as part of your display. Please note: we try to be sensitive to food allergies and avoid hot food that could carry food borne illnesses. Food Trucks will be onsite for families to purchase meals on the night. The idea of food provided by families at their tables is samplings of national nibbles! Crowds are large so plan accordingly.
Food Trucks representing different ethnic flavors and cultures will be part of the evenings' festivities and we will have more food trucks available this year to meet demand.
No experience is necessary! We welcome as many countries/families as are interested although we do have a 40 table limit. Minimum volunteer time (set-up day prior) and host your table from 5:30pm-8:00pm. We welcome connecting families who would like to co-host tables.
The planning committee will provide passports to all attending children. We will also provide each participating country with stickers with their flag so they can “stamp” the passports as they circulate.
Drop off and set-up will be available May 4th from 3pm onwards if placed in MPR. For those countries/families placed in the Cafeteria, access will be available for set-up from 3pm on May 5th. We hope that all countries will be set-up by 5:00pm on May 5th. (Regretfully, due to Campagna after-care we don't have access to the Cafeteria on May 4th to allow earlier access to set-up for countries placed in that space).
Placements of displays
Space placements (MPR or Cafeteria) will be assigned closer to the date as we determine where families/countries and continents best fit.
We typically place countries and continents in groupings together. We try to honor requests for wall space and outlets although we do have to work within the constraints of the space. Please let all your requirements be know to the planning committee.
We do have hanging tools available for open use but recommend you let us know of any special needs you may have to help you in your display.
We ask that families/tables are set-up by 5pm on May 5th. This will allow for 30 minutes for participating families/countries to tour the other tables before opening to the public. General opening has been moved to the earlier start time of 5:30pm to allow our community to have adequate time to enjoy the evening.
New this year!-Teaming up with Literacy Team
We are delighted to be working with the Literacy team at LCTA to do some advance work in the classrooms so children will get as much out of the night as possible! Some of these plans are as follows:
We will have a “Read-Aloud” with a goal of reading up to 40 books in the classrooms at LCTA in the week prior to International Night. Books will be representative of the countries participating in International Night. Teachers will read the books in their classrooms, one a day, in the week leading up to International Night. We ask that the families hosting help us with a suggested book for their country. Ms. Knoll our librarian will work to stock our library with the suggested books. As an added benefit, our library will end up with a lasting well-stocked foreign section as part of its’ collection…helping achieve a goal of our wonderful Library at LCTA!
The planning team will distribute a sheet with; fun facts, flags and a map highlighting the participating countries. This sheet will be distributed to students in advance of the night. We ask that families hosting provide the planning team with a FUN FACT representative of their country.
We will have a large Map in the rotunda at LCTA where students will mark the countries that they are from along with color code by grade the countries they have read stories from.
The planning team will put together a short power point to be played in the classrooms on Tuesday May 5th with some information about the countries they will be traveling to that night on International Night!
Do you have a music performance/ dance group that could perform on the night. Please let the planning committee know.
