Animal Crusaders Towel and Blanket Drive THANK YOU!

Thank you to ALL the families who donated supplies for homeless animals!  We had a fabulous response and delivered the following to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and to King Street Cats:

171 towels (plus assorted very small towels like washcloths) 75 blankets 9 small rugs (good for concrete floors) 1 brand new dog vest for a small dog!

Both shelters were very glad to get the donations.  Lyles-Crouch students did an amazing job for this community service project.  They made, hung, and then took down posters to advertise the drive.  They wrote the announcement for the school and Wednesday folders.  Last, they folded, counted, and packaged all those supplies in just 30 minutes!  Thank you to all who participated!

We will be outside of school each morning at drop off this week with collection bins. Students may also earn ROARS community service hours by supporting Blessings in a Backpack this month.  See flyer below for more information.

Outdoor Learning Center

Share in the dream of a new purpose-built Outdoor Learning Center for LCTA!  With our facility bursting at the seams and no room to add on, it's time to make better use of our outdoor space.  Never professionally designed or built with the current student enrollment in mind, its layout, surfaces, and equipment are dysfunctional, inadequate, unsafe and seasonally limited.  We are looking to extend our learning to the outdoors with a safe, purpose-built, state-of-the-art outdoor learning center and grounds.  Join the collaboration of parents, grandparents, staff, faculty, neighbors, and concerned citizens working with ACPS to see LCTA’s outdoor learning environment become a reality.  It is time to advocate for our school and our students.

Join our website and Facebook page to support this initiative and get the latest updates!

Hello from ACPS Safe Routes to School! As your Safe Routes to School Coordinator, my job is to encourage students to walk and bike to school and to educate them on how to do so safely. This fall, your student(s) was asked to report how she or he travels to and from school. The district-wide results showed that 22% of our students walk to school and 1% bike to school. Now that we know how your students are arriving and dismissing, it is helpful for us to understand why.

Please take 3-minutes to complete the attached survey (available online in English or Spanish) regarding student travel. What factors affect whether you allow your student(s) to walk or bike to school? Are there any changes to safety-related conditions along the route that could increase the likelihood that your child walks or bikes to school? Your feedback will inform improvements to infrastructure, traffic, and overall safety near your student’s school. Thank you for your time and attention in completing this survey! http://www.saferoutesdata.org/surveyformparent.cfm?key=1426703
