LCTA PTA eROAR, September 8, 2020

Good Morning Lyles-Crouch Families,

As we prepare our children for "back-to-school" today, there is no doubt it feels different. There are no uniforms laid out, no sneakers/shoes or backpacks by the door, no lunchboxes being packed, no anticipated photo in front of the school bus or the school. We have some experience of what to expect this 2020-21 school year, yet we are hoping it will work better this time around. It is the same concern as with every "back-to-school" and for every family: will my child(ren) fare okay? This year, that concern is higher, the worry is more, the hope is bigger!  Please know all these sentiments are shared. They are shared by our administration, our teachers, our LCTA families, the community, and most of all, our children!

Dr. Zissios, Ms. Ricks and the Lyles-Crouch and ACPS teams have prepared us for success. Today comes equipped with hopes for a bright year for our resilient learners!  Our teachers are invested in the VirtualPlus+ program and their passion for teaching cannot be extinguished by taking away their traditional classroom. They have prepared their online classrooms with dedication and careful thought, just as they would have prepared their classrooms in the building. Because of the challenges facing us, our community is stronger than ever. We are all interconnecting with the same goal and purpose in mind: to provide support in educating our children.

With best wishes on behalf of myself and our entire PTA Executive Board. Wishing your family a smooth launch to a new school year.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or comments.

Melissa Carstens 2020-21 PTA President

Consider joining the back-to-school "Walk-the-Block" THIS MORNING before school begins.

Tuesday, September 8 is "Alexandria Walk the Block" sponsored by Safe Routes to School, Alexandria Moves, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, Running Brooke, and Alexandria City Parks & Rec. The idea is for students and families to get outside to "walk the block" around their neighborhood before logging onto VirtualPlus+ the first day of school. This will encourage the healthy habit of getting out for a walk on school days. Please join us!
